Listening Bar
Every Wednesday from 19:30 to 22:30: music from vinyl, drinks without a menu and ten to fourteen seats in a room of their own.
The idea
In Japan, kissaten are places where music is not background. You sit, you listen, you drink something good, and the system stands in the middle of the room rather than in a corner. That is the idea we bring to Bad Mergentheim on these evenings.
It does not mean reverent silence. It only means that the record playing right now is the reason everyone is here. Conversation, glass and company follow by themselves.
The drinks
On kissa nights there is no drinks list. You tell the bartender what you are in the mood for, dry or fruity, classic or experimental, with or without alcohol, and he builds your drink around it. If you prefer, you can leave the choice entirely to him.
The music
Everything is played from vinyl. Jazz belongs to the kissa tradition and it is where we start too, but that is not where it ends. Soul, funk, Brazilian records, electronic music: in the end it comes down to what the room is in the mood for.
Requests are genuinely welcome. If you have a record in mind, say so, or simply bring it along.
Sound & space
The kissa nights take place in a separate part of the bar, with ten to fourteen seats, close to the speakers. There are deliberately no more than that: on this system you can hear the difference, and that calls for a small group.
If you would like to join, it is best to let us know in advance – with so few seats an evening fills up quickly.
